What happened
On Sept 28, 2026 NVIDIA introduced the Open Agent Safety Platform: OpenShell, broadly available open-source runtime software that sandboxes AI agents and enforces policy on files/tools/network/credentials, plus Sentry, a reference design running an out-of-band watchdog on BlueField-4 DPUs that can quarantine out-of-bounds agents in milliseconds. Launched with 100+ industry partners incl. Anthropic, CrowdStrike, Microsoft, Palo Alto, Palantir, SAP.
Why it matters
This is the first full-stack agent-security architecture that pushes enforcement outside the compromised host to separate silicon, addressing the 2026 pattern of hijacked agents bypassing application-layer controls. NVIDIA is defining an open reference for agent-isolation and zero-trust agent access, with huge adoption reach across its partner ecosystem.
Applicability
AI infrastructure/agent platform teams at enterprises and CSPs should evaluate OpenShell for sandboxing coding/browsing agents and the BlueField-4 Sentry design where hardware-grade isolation (robotics, regulated workloads) is required.
