Children's Safety and Well-Being in the Age of AI: Best Practices and Incentives

Strategic ReportMedium impactGlobal
The World Economic Forum's Global Coalition for Digital Safety published a white paper setting out seven practices for actors across the AI life cycle, united by the goal that 'avoiding harm is not enough. The aim is for children to be better off' in AI-enabled environments — covering age-appropriateness, privacy, and safety by design. Because principles alone won't drive adoption, the report pairs the practices with an incentives framework: clear common duties, market rewards for responsible companies that make unsafe design costly, support for smaller organisations lacking capacity, and mechanisms that keep pace as technology outruns legislation (launched ~Oct 1, 2026 at WEF's Centre for AI Excellence).
Child-safety-by-design is becoming a regulatory and litigation exposure for any platform or model developer; this WEF framework is a concrete, citable standard to align product and policy teams against.
Map the seven practices and incentive levers against your consumer-facing AI products' age-safety controls and compliance roadmap.
